The Space Race and the ultimate United States’ victory in reaching the Moon began with spacecraft designed for one human. The Liberty Bell 7 is one of those spacecraft. The story of its mission, and its recovery after 38 years on the floor of the Atlantic Ocean, is fascinating.
Using the actual Liberty Bell 7 spacecraft as its foundation, this exhibit sheds light on how America’s first astronauts were selected and how they prepared for the unknowns of travel to space.
Understanding the past and the critical first steps that eventually led to footprints on the Moon inspires a greater understanding of today’s space exploration and the wonder that will lead us into the future.

REQUIREMENTS
• On-staff curator required for artifact handling
• Must have a minimum 8’ x 9’ opening into building and exhibit space
• Two 120v/20-amp standard circuits; power cords for each of the two powered cases are each 10 feet long.
• Forklift for loading and unloading; rigging for placement other than ground level.
• Path to installation destination must be 8’ wide and free of stairs
• Must provide proof of insurance.
DELIVERY AND INSTALL
• Two SpaceWorks technicians will provide onsite installation of Liberty Bell 7 Exhibition.
• All costs associated with lease, including inbound shipping and installation, are the responsibility of the receiving institution
• Must provide a storage space for crates and packing materials.
